We love burgers of all kinds, from itty-bitty greasy sliders by the bagful to big, juicy pillows made from house-ground, locally raised beef; from Wisconsin’s burgers bathed in butter to Oklahoma’s onion-fried burger. But perhaps no burgers pique our appetites quite as much as New Mexico’s famous green chile cheeseburgers. That’s why we’re happy to pass along the Green Chile Cheeseburger Trail, a map of 48 green chile cheeseburger specialists compiled by the New Mexico Tourism Department.

If you click on the above map you’ll get an interactive version. Many long-time Roadfood favorites are on the trail, including Bert’s Burger Bowl (Roadfood.com review), Bobcat Bite (Roadfood.com review), El Farolito (Roadfood.com review), Owl Bar (Roadfood.com review), Stop & Eat (Roadfood.com review), and Sugar’s (Roadfood.com review). There are 48 different restaurants in all (although Blake’s Lotaburger shows up way too often). To help put the list together they asked for nominations from the public; almost 200 restaurants were submitted, and all of them are listed here. The nominations were one factor, but not the sole one, in determining which GCCB restaurants made the Trail.
