Red Velvet Whoopie Pies at Corner Grille

Nearly fifty fans have commented about last week’s Red Velvet Cake post on Roadfood.com’s Facebook page, and we have made a further discovery to stoke the fiery enthusiasm: Red Velvet Whoopie Pies. The credit goes to Raena Heppenstall, owner of Worcester’s Corner Grille, home to Massachusetts’ thinnest and most unique pizza. She told us that she uses her mother-in-law’s recipe (dating back to the 1950s!) to make the cakes and then fills them with an ultra-rich cream cheese icing. Enticing desserts share the spotlight with pizza, salads, and wraps, and among these decadent delights are (pictured below, clockwise from left) an iced pumpkin cookie, a white-and-milk-chocolate-chip cookie bar, and an apple crumble pie that Raena’s husband Michael bakes by following a neighbor’s recipe. All desserts are wrapped for takeout, and we always end up buying more than expected!
