In compiling a list of 100 foods, there are bound to be some stand-outs as well as some real clunkers. Sure, not every item can be as excellent as the one before, but Stop #33 certainly raised the bar for all those left to come. Woudstra Meat Market is located in Orange City, IA, a small town with a large Dutch population. Sitting at the heart of the old downtown, this family-owned meat market offers a wide array of loins, chops, steaks, and sausages; however, the item for which they gained local notoriety is the bratwurst. Fresh, hand-ground links can be picked up any day of the week, but those lucky enough to stop by on a Thursday afternoon have the distinct advantage of purchasing one of these slightly-charred beauties straight from the outdoor grill. Now, granted, we have not traveled extensively throughout Wisconsin in search of the perfect brat; however, we have a hard time believing that anyone could improve upon this western Iowa specialty. Intensely flavorful and drip-down-your-chin juicy, one bite of a Woudstra brat will transport your thoughts to Oktoberfest and send your taste buds straight to heaven. Our self-imposed challenge is now to find a bratwurst that could possibly trump Woudstra Meat Market. Any suggestions for potential challengers?
