Melena Ryzik from the New York Times wrote a fabulous article on Tuesday that spotlights the growing trend of NYC dating couples who search out cheap eats. Instead of fancy tablecloths and a snooty sommelier, more couples are finding unconditional gustatory love in gourmet burgers, fried chicken, and pizza. This urban epiphany is hardly surprising to Roadfood readers, though, as our community can always unearth romantic nirvana in Buffalo wings, fried clam platters, BBQ plates, and cheap tacos. Even though it’s now almost an hour’s drive since we left Connecticut, our most frequented date spot remains Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria Napoletana in Manchester, and our “usual” is a small white clam pie, a small tomato pie, and a liter of Foxon Park birch beer—all for under $25.
