’50s Sock Hop at Zaharakos

Posted by ayersian , September 15, 2009 22:28

 RF C-C Day 3

If we weren’t traveling this weekend for the Buffalo/Rochester Roadfood Tour, we’d consider joining the flattop cats and dungaree dolls at the 1950s Sock Hop party at Zaharakos Ice Cream Parlor and Museum in Columbus, Indiana. Be the first to dance in the new Green River Banquet Hall, and enjoy $1 fountain drinks all night. Prizes will be awarded to the best dancers, and of course Zaharakos’ famous Cheese-Brr-Grr (pictured above), fries, and ice cream will be offered. When we met CajunKing at Zaharakos this summer, their classic Green River fountain soda was not yet available. It now graces the fall menu, which also includes artisan grilled cheese & avocado sandwiches, chili, salads, and raspberry chocolate chip ice cream. And don’t forget the most significant artifact: the newly restored 1908 Welte Orchestrion, a self-playing pipe organ with snare drum and cymbal!
