Let’s run through an A to Z list of the foods at the 2009 Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson (this is just a tiny sampling): alligator on a stick, bierocks, chicken and noodles, Dutch ollie bollen, espresso, fried bologna, giant tenderloin, hot links, Indian bread, jaffles, kettle corn, lettuce wedge, mashed taters with gravy, new year’s cookies, okra, pork burgers, quesadillas, roasted corn, sweet rolls, tomato beer, veggie platter, walking taco, yogurt pretzels.  Yes, food plays a big part in the Kansas State Fair.

The Pride of Kansas Building features homemade biscuits and gravy, cinnamon rolls, apple dumplings, hot beef, and more, while the Sunflower North Building specializes in homemade crisps, cookies and sundaes, muffins, brats, and more biscuits and gravy.  And don’t miss the Kansas Wine & Beer Garden.

Musical performances include Montgomery Gentry, Huey Lewis, Gaither Vocal Band, and Heart.  Other activities include the Kansas Auctioneers Bid Calling Contest, equestrian acrobatics, the Celebrity Goat Milking Championship, and an opportunity to ride in a big rig around the Kansas State Fair Race Track.

The fair started last Friday (9/11/09) and will continue through this Sunday the 20th.  See the state fair website for details.
