We’ve often dreamed about combining our favorite Roadfood menu items to make the meal truly transcendent. What if Flo’s in Cape Neddick, Maine served their famous hot-sauced dogs alongside fresh-cut fries from Duckfat in Portland…with the Curry Ketchup from Pommes Frites in New York City? How about topping an award-winning Breaded Pork Tenderloin sandwich from Dairy Sweet in Dunlap, Iowa with some Hot BBQ sauce from L C’s in Kansas City? Or maybe a frothy Black Cow made with the homemade root beer at the Sycamore Drive-In in Bethel, Connecticut and a big scoop of Chocolate Lace ice cream from Dr. Mike’s down the street? Thanks to a Roadfood Digest tip from star poster MiamiDon, we bought a jar of Howard’s Hot Pepper Relish, locally made in Danvers, Massachusetts, and took it to lunch at Mt. View Drive-In in nearby Hampden. Their fine foot-long dogs are sheathed in perfectly grilled New England-style buns, but the only condiments are mustard, ketchup, and a generic sweet relish. We doctored this dog, and boy did it make a difference! Now if we could just figure a way of getting the spicy meat chili at Orangeside Luncheonette in New Haven onto a cheeseburger and cheesefurter from Shady Glen in Manchester…
