Broadway marquees went dark at 8 pm last night, for one minute, to honor Harry Edelstein, owner of the theater district restaurant Cafe Edison, better known as The Polish Tea Room. Mr. Edelstein, a much-loved Broadway legend, passed away Monday at the age of 91. Cafe Edison has long been a popular hangout for Broadway types from playwrights to producers, and for anyone who appreciates the homey feeling one gets from a nice egg salad sandwich or some of the best matzo balls in the city. Read more about Harry Edelstein’s passing in this obituary in Playbill, and this New York Times blog entry, or this one.
