Sliders used to be the lowest form of hamburger – always cheap, and served in the most déclassé sort of eatery. But in recent years, the disreputable greasy little patty bounded up the status scale to the point where you're likely to encounter one as a butlered hors d'oeuvre at a swanky cocktail party (chances are it will be made of Kobe beef). And the term slider no longer is limited to burgers; it can be applied to just about any bunned mini-sandwich, from the tuna tartare slider at the stylish PS7's in Washington, DC, to the barbecue sliders at Charleston's Magnolia's. The latter, pictured above, come two to an order with a choice of side dishes, including Magnolia's extremely hearty greens.
