Where Are the Best Sticky Buns?

Sticky Buns

Not to disrespect the excellent sticky buns of Pennsylvania, nor the donuts of both coasts, nor muffins, beignets, long johns, crullers, kolaches, sopaipillas, bunuelos and churros, fritters and funnelcakes, elephant ears and beaver tails, but we believe the best sticky-gooey-sweet coffee-companion pastries are found in Minnesota and Iowa, the best of the best at Hell's Kitchen in Minneapolis and Duluth (center in the above collage), followed by those made at Bread and Chocolate, the Machine Shed, and the Coffee Cup Cafe, with honorable mention to Colorado for the colossi of Johnson's Corner and the sylphid lovelies of the Duffeyroll Cafe. I lived in Philadelphia for 5 years, and through my searching of quirky food joints in the town I came across a little bakery called the Pink Rose.  Just south of South St. on Bainbridge and 4th St, the Pink Rose has a shabby chic, hippiish interior and very south Philly employees.  The food though, is to die for.  Their baked goods are among the best I have ever had.  On Saturdays and Sundays only they make sticky buns.  Sweet, but not too sweet, sticky, moist and absolutely delicious.  I've never had better

My group met Chris, Amy and their friend at Hell's Kitchen just a few months ago.  Even with all of those people, we somehow managed to order just about everything on the menu except for the caramel pecan roll.  Luckily, the waitress sent one over to us for free to try or we would have really missed out.  Even a nut frowner like myself could appreciate how good that roll was.

I ate at the Coffee Cup Cafe in March but had pie instead -- nuts!  The pie was excellent, though.

Being from Minnesota, I can attest that Hell's Kitchen's sweet rolls are indeed spectacular.  However, there is another joint around here that comes mighty close.  The Swede Hollow Cafe in St. Paul has won "best caramel rolls" over the last few years.  I've had 'em.  Mind-blowing.  They also have the best quiche I've ever tasted.
