48 years and counting: that’s how long the Rattlesnake Rodeo has been held in the town of Opp, state of Alabama. Gates open Saturday, April 4, 2009 for the rodeo, and the bands begin at 10 am. There’ll be snake shows and snake races, karaoke contests, a greased pole climb, buck dancing, and plenty of musical performances, headlined by Jeff Bates and Anna Garrott. The rodeo continues Sunday the 5th. Over 20,000 people are expected to attend, and this year they won’t be disappointed because facilities have been upgraded, so the show can go on no matter what the weather.
Of course, what would a rattlesnake rodeo be without some fried snake? Sure, you’ll enjoy some good snake eatin’ this weekend in Opp. Also, the Opp Lions Club begin serving their famous all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast Saturday at 630 am, in the cafeteria of the Opp middle school. Price is $5 for dine-in or carry-out.
