The 12 Days of Iowa BPTs, Day 2

Since Amy is based in Carroll, Iowa, our second day spotlights what we consider the town’s finest BPT at Denny’s Restaurant. Located at 227 North Carroll Street a few blocks south of Route 30 — and a far cry from the national chain with the same name — Denny’s is tucked away in a mostly residential neighborhood and was the very first eatery that was recommended to Amy when she moved here. It’s the type of place that most locals don’t consider to be fancy, but their home-cooked fare is far from simply casual. The daily special on our visit was scalloped chicken, but their breaded pork tenderloin is the real draw here. The tenderloin is dipped in a peppered batter, fried to a tawny brown, and served with homemade potato chips. A wheat bun comes standard, and our server asked if we wanted some spicy mustard. “We make it fresh with lots of horseradish,” she added, and its vinegary tang added a flavorful punch as well as clearing our sinuses. Fast, friendly service and consistently delicious food keep us coming back to Denny’s.

I have never had a BPT but they are on my bucket list.  I can taste them in my mind from your description of their preparation.  Thank you! I have been waiting for your comments; from the time when you told me that Any was going to Iowa.
