When we think of maple syrup, the first places that come to mind are Vermont and New Hampshire, maybe Canada and New York State too.  But maple syrup is made elsewhere, and they enjoy celebrating the sugarbush harvest just as much as the big shots do!  Parke County in Indiana has been celebrating their local maple producers last weekend and this one; there’s one more day left to enjoy the Parke County Maple Syrup Fair.

Parke County has some gorgeous countryside dotted with covered bridges, just right for getting in the mood for the pancakes with whole hog sausage and local maple syrup that will be served at the festival headquarters in Rockville at the 4-H Fairgrounds.  After breakfast pick up a map that will guide you to the maple syrup camps around the region.  They will be welcoming guests as they demonstrate the sugaring process.  There will also be displays of maple products, homemade jams and jellies and baked goods for sale (and maple fudge), and the Butcher Shop will offer smoked meats and cheeses to bring home as an edible souvenir of your visit.

The last day of the fair is Sunday, March 1st, 8 am until 4 pm.  See the festival website for more info.
