What began with a local gentleman known as Mr. Pumpkin, who got into the Halloween spirit in 1956 by displaying some decorated pumpkins in his front yard, has developed into a full-blown pumpkin blowout, held each year since 1962, and celebrated on the courthouse lawn in Sycamore, IL.
Opening day Wednesday will feature the Giant Cake Cutting Ceremony at 5 pm. Not only is it entertaining, but there’s free cake too. There’s a Kiwanis Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, a Rotary Pancake breakfast Saturday morning, a Pig Roast Luncheon and a Beef Burger Luncheon, both on Saturday, the Kiwanis Pie-Eating Contest on Saturday afternoon, the Odd Fellows Breakfast Sunday, and food booths too.
There will of course be a pumpkin display and weigh-in, Kiddie & Teen Carnivals, scary stories at the library, craft shows, an antique craft & flea market, a baton contest, a golf scramble, a 10K run, and the big Pumpkin Parade on Sunday.
