Flaurie and Maurie hope to be welcoming visitors to the new Wheeling, IL Superdawg (Roadfood.com review; photo above) by spring ‘09.  Wheeling Countryside reports that ground was broken 9/26 in the construction of the second Superdawg, which will have a landscaped picnic area and 71 drive-in spaces for ordering from your car.

Awww!  I was hoping it was going to be Wheeling, WV, but I guess that would be a little unrealistic.

I am going for the record - or close to it.  I started "dining" on Superdawgs in the late 1950's,having grown up in that area of Chicago. When they had the sad fire in the 60's and it was closed for a number of years, and then re-opened, it was like the clouds parted and the sun broke through! I have been a patron ever since despite living in Lake County, about 25 miles away. I make an excuse to go to the city that I love and to stop for lunch!

Now that SD is opening in Wheeling, I will be 15 minutes and another 30 pounds away from what is truly "hot dog(dawg) heaven"!!

From what I know, based on GOOGLE, the new Superdawg will be on Milwaukee Avenue, approximately half-way between Dundee Rd. and Hintz Road.  I am waiting with my tongue hanging out!

I drove past there a couple of weeks ago and it didn't look like anything had been started yet.  It's still just a field of tall grass with a "coming soon" sign.  Is there some sort of delay?

Sorry for the short delay folks. Winter hit unexpectedly early and hard. We are beginning construction within the next few weeks, and expect to be open in the Fall of this year. We hope to see all of you there!
