Conditions in Connecticut this year were just right for a large crop of good-quality apples: cold winter, no hard freezes during bloom, dry pollinating season, sunny and warm summer, a few days of summer rain. The first pick-your-own varieties are just about ready right now. Christy Beardsley of Beardsley’s Cider Mill in Shelton (Roadfood.com review, photo above) says, “Before you go, check out our Web site to make sure that we'll have the apples you're looking for ready to pick.” See the story in the Connecticut Post.
