A major fair has been held in Lewisburg since the 1920’s, but it wasn’t until the early 40’s that the state certified this fair as the official State Fair of West Virginia.  Today’s fair has a wide assortment of farm-centered activities.  There will be farm animals galore, horse shows and pulls, harness racing, mower racing, performing dogs, and a cow pie throwing competition.  You can change tires at the Pit Stop Challenge, check out old-time farming equipment at Heritage Village, or become a farmer for a day at the Family Fun Zone.  The great Merle Haggard will be performing August 8th.  And what would a state fair be without Charlie Daniels?  He’ll perform on the 14th.  Of course there will be carnival rides and fireworks!

Want to eat West Virginia style?  Options include pepperoni rolls, apple dumplings, BBQ ribs, cinnamon rolls, country ham, pork steaks, pulled pork, catfish, roasted corn, fried green tomatoes, rib eye steak sandwiches, Paul Bunyan sandwiches (?), brown beans (pinto beans simmered with fatback) and cornbread, and chicken with baked potato, slaw, and calico beans.

See the fair website for more details.
