What Do You Dip French Fries In?

Most Roadfood.com readers are traditionalists when it comes to french fries, preferring ketchup over all other dips combined. Some other dip suggestions from the Roadfood Forum: vinegar, honey mustard dressing, steamed mussel broth (!), and spicy tomato mayonnaise.

I've seen people dip their fries in, of all things, their shake! On the rare occasion that I go to Wendy's, a few of the diners there will order a Frostie and dip their fries in it. I've never had the guts to try it.

Sprinkling malt vinegar and salt on 'em is the French-Canadian way I learned hanging out at Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Oh, and make the fries a side dish to a slice of cheese pizza, of course.

When I'm feeling decadent, I love to dip in Mayo or Ranch dressing. Usually it's just ketchup though.

Though I have mixed ketchup with a little bit of cayenne powder at home and dipped them in that

Plus I need salt on those fries

I sometimes dip mine in french dressing and sprinkle with parmasean cheese! I know it sounds gross my i like it!

The best thing I ever had to dip fries in was an oil&pepper paste that I was given at Hocutt's Carolina BBQ back when it was at its Wheeling, WV location. It wasn't on the main menu, Mr. Hocutt himself brought it out to me when he saw me using generous helpings of the pepper vinegar they set out on the table.

I don't know exactly what it was, but it was delicious, and a little went a looonnnggg way. Spicy as all get out.

i'm from holland, and we eat our french fries with mayo.

that, or the combinations:

Fries Special: fries with mayo, curry (a ketchup with spices and sweetened up) and raw onions

or

Fries "War" (patat oorlog): fries with mayo, peanut sauce and raw onions. The fries "peace" versions substitutes (mayo-based) garlic sauce for the mayo.

Nothing like Flemmish fries with full mayo...yum!

I love to dip mine in Heinz 57, especially steak fries. But I'd have to agree that mayo is pretty good.

I like to dip mine in tartar sauce... especially if it is with fried clams or a Frisch's Big Boy (their "special sauce" is tartar sauce)
