Summertime Eats in CT, Chapter 6

We, too, were skeptical when we first read of the whole-bellied clams at David’s Place, tucked a good ten miles inland from the coast in Chesterfield. But having now sampled their fried clams on two occasions, we can wholeheartedly proclaim them our favorites in the state. There is simply something about the batter at David’s that makes their fried food stand out from the rest. On this particular visit, we enjoyed somewhat of a fried food feast, complete with whole-bellies, hand-cut French fries, and their marvelously thin and crispy onion rings. So as not to become completely weighed down in grease, we also opted to try their chili dog. Although the dog itself was a little thicker than we’d prefer, the chili was memorable, given the abundance of heavily Greek-spiced ground beef. Only a few short miles from the bustle of I-95, a summertime detour to David’s is a no-brainer in our books.
