Today Is National Hot Dog Day?

Posted by Bruce Bilmes and Sue Boyle , July 20, 2008 18:30

By now, pretty much everyone knows that this month is National Hot Dog Month.  At least, the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council says it is.  But did you also know that today is National Hot Dog Day?  Who says?  Well… the website Chicagoist says that the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council says it is.  Seems nobody knew, at least no one at the famed Chicago hot dog joints.  So Chicagoist.com has put together yet another list of five of their favorite Chicagoland hot doggeries.  Their choices?  Murphy’s Red Hots, Hot Doug’s, The Weiner’s Circle (Roadfood.com review), Wiener and Still Champion, and Poochie’s.

That’s a Chicago dog on the left and a char-cooked Polish on the right, from Michael Stern’s Roadfood.com review of Poochie’s in Skokie.

Interesting info in this post.  I would have guessed, if there was a National Hot Dog Day, it would have been the 4th of July.

It really hurts me that I was in Skokie over the weekend and didn't have time to stop in at Poochie's, where I had my best ever Chicago style dogs.
