New England Ice Cream 049

Part of the National Historic Register and Connecticut Freedom Trail, the building itself dates back to 1790 when it was originally part of the Humphrey Pratt Tavern, where the Marquis de Lafayette stayed and also made a purchase in 1824. Aside from the art gallery and gift shop, the original 1896 soda fountain serves old-fashioned sodas (egg creams and black cows for starters) and ice cream favorites.

Our recommendation - We would experience The James Gallery & Soda Fountain if were traveling through the town.

Trip Report Card
Overall Experience

Black Raspberry Crunch Ice Cream - This black raspberry ice cream was dotted with crumbled Rice Krispies. Although this made for a more interesting texture, it did not add anything to the blasé flavor.
Coffee Ice Cream - A very mild flavor, akin to store-brand varieties.
Vanilla Ice Cream - With a taste like an icy cold glass of milk, this vanilla was not worth ordering on its own.
