Summer's First Lobster Roll

On Day 2 of the New England Ice Cream Tour, Stephen had the brilliant idea to start our Maine leg at Round Top Ice Cream in Damariscotta…which, of course, meant lunch at Red's Eats in Wiscasset. I volunteered to wait in line while Stephen and Amy visited Round Top and brought back ice cream. Red's was just about to open, and I was second in line behind a Brooklyn pilot who'd flown his girlfriend up for lunch!

I placed my order with the friendly cashier and was enthralled by a cook who was dipping fresh onion rings in batter then dropping them into the bubbling oil. With melted butter on the side, this lobster roll (with the meat slightly chilled in a grilled bun) was a little slice of Roadfood heaven. And the rings were hot, chewy, and utterly irresistible. Life doesn't get any better than a Maine summer with at least one trip to Red's.

Hey WanderingJew, does that fruit-covered plate above look familiar? I think you were served on the same one we had a week before! What wonderful Roadfood!

I am completely enjoying this leg of Roadfood, and cannot believe how good that lobster roll looks. The lobster salad doesnt interest me, but this one with melted butter, and slightly cold lobster makes my mouth water! Keep up the great work(and thanks for the maple syrup, my friend)
