Located within a summertime shack that once served as both a garage and a blacksmith shop, the venerable Four Seas holds the distinction of being the third oldest ice cream shop in New England. Although there are plenty of swiveling stools along the counter, working your way through the crowd of densely packed patrons may prove difficult. Four Seas certainly wins the award for efficiency, however, with a small army of friendly and knowledgeable scoopers ready to take on the steady stream of ice cream orders coming their way.

Our recommendation - We would drive across several towns to experience Four Seas

Trip Report Card
Overall Experience

Vanilla Chai- Spicy (as in cardamom and cinnamon), but difficult to pinpoint. In a blindfolded taste test, it might be difficult to name.
Banana - Smooth consistency, but the banana flavor was understated, making it difficult to remember what flavor had been ordered.
Vanilla Ice Cream - Creamy, smooth and the the perfect base for complementing the hot fudge.
Hot Fudge Sauce - A thin, heady brew that had undertones of darker chocolate origin.

Hi Beth, we didn't know about Erikson's -- thanks for the tip! When you go to Four Seas, go when it's busy to note the scoopers: it was like watching the Rockettes and their practiced precision.

Hi Chris,
Greetings from CA! I would like to second the plug for Erikson's; I grew up not far away and their ginger ice cream was a staple of my childhood and one of my all-time favorites (and if memory serves their real hot fudge was lovely...but then we could talk about Bergson's and Herrell's, too!). We also frequented Kimball's in Westford, which has now become a kind of compound with bumper boats and mini-golf. But they've been there forever, and people love the "Kimball's specials," which are gigantic sundaes with piles of toppings (I like a plain dish of black raspberry though). I can't tell you how much I envy you...
