New England Ice Cream 045

Drive a few short miles outside of the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, and the smoke stacks are suddenly replaced by silos and the concrete by lush green fields. It is in the town of Dracut that one can discover the last operating dairy farm in the greater Lowell area. Shaw Farm has been producing milk for over a century, but only began to sell its ice cream from a seasonal stand in 1999. Ice cream cones are best eaten at one of the outdoor picnic tables, just a stone's throw from the farm's bovine residents.

Our recommendation - We would experience Shaw Farm Ice Cream if were traveling through the town.

Trip Report Card
Overall Experience

Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream - Subtle, mint extract flavor with a scattering of chocolate chips.
Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream - This scoop had a nice peanut butter flavor, but it was not strong enough to fully satisfy a nutty craving.
Vanilla Ice Cream - Creamy, light texture, but lacking a bit of vanilla flavor.
Hot Fudge Sauce - This hot fudge did its job of being a sweet and gloppy topping, but was nothing out of the ordinary.

Very mediocre ice cream as compared to all the others, though they did have cows in the pasture!
