The definitive resource for news, events and reviews of great regional food from around the country
J.P. stands for Jamaica Plain, where the first J.P. Licks shop opened back in 1981. Since that time, the store has expanded to include 7 Boston locations, all of which serve up the same high-quality, homemade ice cream and hot fudge. If you're not in the mood for a heavy dose of cream and sugar (either in your ice cream or house-roasted coffee), J.P. Licks also offers a line of both hard and soft frozen yogurts.
Please visit http://www.RoadfoodDigest.com/IceCream for a complete listing of reviews in the New England Ice Cream series.
Our recommendation - We would travel across state lines to experience J.P. Licks Ice Cream.

We visited the shop near the Coolidge Theater, fyi. Their hot fudge was sooo much like ganache -- crazy! This place was very, very popular on a Saturday afternoon.

I gotta tell you, though, I HATE that name! I don't care how good the ice cream is, I won't go to a place named J.P. Licks.

Bruce/Sue, Were you joking when you said you wouldn't go to J.P. Licks because of the name? If you're serious, I'd feel bad as you would be denying yourself some truly great ice cream! -billyboy

My favorite here has always been the regular Oreo ice cream--never had another quite like it. It's GRAY because it's so loaded with integrated cookies, which is a good thing!
