New England Ice Cream 097

Although most Mainer's likely know Smiling Hill for its glass-bottled milk, they also make their own cheese curds and delicious ice cream. You would never guess that this green oasis is situated just down the road from the Portland Jetport, but its nearby location makes for an easy afternoon getaway from the South Portland crowds. After you step inside the large, red barn to choose from 20 or more ice cream varieties, be sure to tote your cone out back to meet the animals.

Our recommendation - We would drive across several towns experience Smiling Hill Farm

Trip Report Card
Overall Experience

Peach Melba Ice Cream - The delicious berry swirl infused the scoop with the taste of fresh summer fruit, but served to mute the peach flavor of the ice cream itself.
Mocha Chip Ice Cream - A solid coffee flavor with plentiful chunks of chocolate, this scoop could have been elevated to the next level if it was a tad less icy.
Vanilla Ice Cream - Although the texture was appealing, the flavor fell somewhat flat.
Hot Fudge Sauce - The hot fudge was good, but ordinary (translation: thick, gooey, and rather generic)

When we lived in Maine, we frequently bought Smiling Hill milk in the glass bottles and LOVED their spicy cheese curds. The ice cream pales in comparison to their other dairy products, unfortunately.
