An unassuming, utilitarian façade hides some of Maine’s best ice cream. Although the homemade ice cream is a work of art in itself, perhaps even more stunning are the sunny, rolling pastures extending from the rear of the shop. The detour from the quaint, picturesque downtown of Damariscotta is certainly worth the short drive
Our recommendation - We would drive across state lines to experience Round Top Ice Cream

That back-porch photo reminds me why I love Maine so much! Note that you pass by Red's Eats on the way (if driving north), so you gotta stop for a lobster roll, too.

Stephen, I am SO jealous. Round Top is our favorite ice cream in Maine! During our midcoast vacations, we have made many, many side trips to Damariscotta just to get Round Top. I'm kinda sad to see the changes that have taken place in the past few years. Before it was in this current building, Round Top was dished out from a tiny roadside stand that looked as if it had been there since 1924 (and it may have been). Wish we were there right now... It's already 90-plus degrees here in Dallas, and I could really use some of that Round Top vanilla!

Round Top Dairy has been around for many, many years. The first ice cream shop was just a few yards from the present location. Many high school girls worked there to earn money to purchase school clothes for the coming year. After a swim at Biscay Pond, we went to get ice cream at Round Top! It was a summer tradition. The new place is nice, but it doesn't compare to the old, small, quaint little shop where it all began.

Round Top has the only blueberry ice cream I ever tried that truly tasted like blueberries. I didn't buy a lobster roll at Red's in Wiscasset but went around to the side where there's a little Round Top stand. Followed that not much later with a trip to Damariscotta. Worth every drop of gas!
