I stopped at Dottie's Diner for the usual this morning -- a cinnamon donut and a chocolate donut -- but had to try a new variety that Dottie has added to the old Phillip's repertoire: vanilla frosted. Like the chocolate-frosted, it wears a full, thick blanket of icing on top of its crunchy cake skin; and while it is guaranteed to sate the most ravenous sweet tooth, I found it lacking the seductive power of chocolate. I can eat Dottie's cinnamon and chocolate donuts until I bust, but a single vanilla-frosted one was all I wanted to handle. Perhaps that's because the cinnamon and chocolate ones were on the plate beckoning for attention.
