Long before drinking my first beer, I loved Beer Nuts. The earthy, oily denseness of the legume combined with the fragile sweet envelope of skin adds up to a snack that is impossible to stop eating. I've since given up beer, but the craving for nuts that are sweet periodically returns. While I still do enjoy the brand name version as well as honey-roasted nuts, I recently diverted my attention from the amazing chocolates at Bridgewater Chocolates to buy a can of Butter Toasted Gourmet Peanuts. Omigod! I was on my way to lunch, but once the can was opened, my appetite was soon devastated by a surfeit of this amazing snack. First off, the nuts are meaty toasted Virginia peanuts that Bridgewater actually secures from the esteemed Virginia Diner. They are so satisfying and rich and superior to any ordinary peanut. Bridgewater sheathes them in a brittle sugar-butter caramelized skin with just a dash of salt. The yin-yang of contrasting flavors and spectrum of crunch and crackle put these into my personal pure-pleasure Pantheon.
