Key West airport 2

Here is a link to a podcast that I recently did with Jeff Houck of the Tampa Tribune. There is some focus on Florida -- La Teresita in particular -- but most of it is about Roadfood in general: just what it is and how the idea came about.

The Splendid Table You Will Not Hear

Rehearsal: At right: Sally Swift, producer of "The Splendid Table." The back at the left belongs to Tom Voegli, Public Radio's uberproducer, who produced the live show last night.

Not everyone lives within earshot of the weekly public radio show "The Splendid Table," but if you do, and if you like the show, you need to know that host Lynne Rossetto Kasper and producer Sally Swift have written a book that will officially be published April 8. It is titled The Splendid Table's How to Eat Supper, and it contains not only recipes from the show, but all the opinions and stories behind the food that have characterized the show since its inception 13 years ago. (It was just nominated, yet again, for a James Beard Award as best radio show about food.) Jane and I have been part of "The Splendid Table" since the beginning, offering a 5-minute Roadfood tip each week at the top of the hour. We were in the Twin Cities yesterday for the book's kickoff, a live "show" from the Fitzgerald Auditorium. Alas, it won't be broadcast because so much of it was visual, but we had a ball on stage, especially when fielding questions about America's best hot dogs.
